Snuffy has made an amazing recovery and is living the lap of luxury in his forever home with his mom, Pat. Pat adopted Snuggy (she found this name more suitable for him) in December 2009. Pat shares her thoughts and feelings about this wonderful rescue dog:

“I adopted Snuffy in December 2009 and he has made wonderful progress in the last several months he has lived in his new home. When he first came to live with my Mom and I, he was very afraid which I understood given his horrible life prior to being rescued by Pet Guardians. He was so afraid of every noise and wanted to hide all of the time. I spent time every day sitting by him, petting him, talking to him and started reading a book to him. He seemed very comfortable in my walk-in closet in my bedroom, so I put his bed and pillow in there. One night I was lying on the floor with him and was reading to him and he came up to me, put his head on my shoulder and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I was so excited and can’t tell you how much that meant to me. It was almost like a turning point for both Snuffy and I.

When I come home each evening from work, Snuffy now runs to the door to greet me and he is just as excited to see me as I am to see him. He is starting to come out of his shell more and more each day. He loves playing with his toys and is so excited when I bring a new toy home for him. He loves going for rides in the car. With time he has started to overcome many of his fears. He just completed a training class with Jamie Kelly and he did very well.

Snuffy is just the sweetest little guy and I am so glad that he found a forever home with my Mom and I. I think he now knows that we love him and he will always be taken care of him. I am so happy that Pet Guardians rescued him from such a horrible situation and that he has such a great life now. It brought tears to my eyes when I read his story and saw pictures of him when he was first rescued. Now you cannot tell he was that same dog. Now he is just such a handsome boy!”

Sylvester

Sully(sylvester) is doing great in his new home! He just had his check up with his veterinarian, and everything is great. He has gained about 10lbs since he has joined his new family. The doctor says he’s healthy and seems very happy! You would never know he was a street dog such a short time ago. Sully is still skittish when people first come over, but within 10 minutes he’s bumping them for a few pets. If you don’t pet him when he wants, he starts to nip at your clothes. It gets your attention quick!

Sully is a bit spoiled. He likes to sleep in, knows 8pm is treat time and starts a cooing noise when he doesn’t get his way. It’s not a howl or a bark. It sounds like a dove. Its really cute. Everyday a little more of his own personalty comes out. His new parents have a small pool in the back yard and he’s figured out it’s for them to cool off when he gets hot and we’re outside. Even though he loves the pool, he’s the first one back inside for air conditioning. He runs to the vent in the living room and waits for it to start blowing cool air on him. He’s very smart!

When his new dad is in his recliner, Sully sits next to him and bugs him to be petted. He won’t stop until he gets all the lovins’ he wants. He has even started doing what we call “drive-by munchies”. He slides in when the other dogs are giving out kisses. He gives one then backs off right away like what did I just do? He loves playing with all the dogs. He loves to go for rides, and really wants be anywhere the pack is. We consider it a joy and a privilege to have him in our lives. We promote rescue dogs to everyone we know. We feel they just need safe happy home to thrive. If we had room for more, we would definitely have more. All of our dogs are rescues. They have all had different experiences and they all have different hang-ups, but once they feel safe and are in a routine they have so much love to give.

Hank

Since completing chemo, Hank has become a bit more jubilant. When it is time to go for our walk around the block, he bounces around like a puppy and has an enthusiastically waving tail. However, he still shys away from strangers, so we continue to work on his socialization.

At home, he is better with strangers having graduated from hiding in the corner on his bed to hanging out in the doorway of the bedroom and peeking his head out every once in a while to see what is going on. He is also taking treats from friends when they come over. As time progresses, he is more and more comfortable here and continues to explore new things and to break out of his defensive shell. He’s a very sweet boy with lots of smiles when I arrive home and little kisses to hand out in exchange for some petting.
