Deacon

Valerie adopted Deacon and finds him to be a great joy to have around. Deacon now has a new brother and sister (Mickey and Minnie). Valerie shares her story of being the new forever family to deacon.

“Deacon was a very skittish dog in the beginning, any quick movements would make him cower or run away. He would not go into any small rooms possibly because he was afraid of being trapped. I have had him for over nine months now and he is a very happy and totally comfortable with my two Boston Terriers. When Deacon came into my house, Mickey was his leader! If Mickey did it Deacon would follow! He still has a few moments of being skittish but that is a rare occurrence.

Deacon is in classes at The Dog House and doing very well at his obedience training. We still have some work to do when company comes over. He gets so excited because they come to see him!

Deacon also loves to go for car rides and boat rides. We go to the river every weekend and he loves to play in the water!.”

Malcolm

Malcolm has been on the streets since he was born and we at Gateway always joke that he is the most well-fed stray in East St. Louis. We know of at least 10 people who feed him on a regular basis, which has posed quite the predicament for P.J. as she attempts to rescue him. Since the filming of Gateway Guardians, a forever home has come available for Malcolm. One of the women who feeds him regularly wants to adopt him, we just have to catch him! Because he is fed so frequently, he is not as inclined to enter a baited trap. Please check back regularly for updates on Malcolm’s journey to his forever home.

Lloyd

Lloyd is a gentle giant. He is a mish mash of breeds and so wants to trust someone. He has father many puppies in East St. Louis. Lloyd weighs about 70 pounds and will not get any larger. He finally has started trusting PJ who has loyally fed these dogs for years. He will sniff her hand and has almost taken a treat from her. Behind that black coat is an absolutely adorable dog who would love to be a companion to a human. All it takes is persistence, love and patience. He is absolutely beautiful and has a skunk like grey stripe down his back. Please contact us if you would like to foster Lloyd or to bring him into your home as he so deserves his forever home.
